Is a Dog Drying Robe Better Than a Dog Drying Bag?

At Harbour Hounds, we often get asked why our robes are better than the more familiar ‘dog drying bags’ they see. Unlike our design, a drying bag encapsulates your canine in a towelling pouch that doesn’t have holes for their legs. The bag is made for when they’re resting after a muddy walk. Below, we’ll break down why a drying robe is a far more practical, comfortable, and long-lasting alternative for your dog to relax in after a wet walk, swim, or just a bath at home.

More Freedom

As already mentioned, a dog dry bag is notorious for impairing the movement of any dog it’s used with. Encompassing a dog’s legs and body in a towelled sack stops them from enjoying the freedom of moving, getting a drink or food and dogs can get stressed at this resistance of movement.

Harbour Hounds’ drying robes have been designed with movement as a priority, with the towel covering the whole body like a coat to allow flexibility. Hindering a dog’s natural movement always brings bad results for them, so we made a drying robe as comfortable as possible.

A Happy Experience

Whilst some pooches may love the tight enclosure of a dog bag after a wet walk, others can get quite anxious. Attempting to scoop up your (potentially large) dog and fasten them into a sack can cause distress for the animal, not to mention the restriction of their movement in the hour(s) that follows.

A dog dry robe fits onto your pooch comfortably, so they can snuggle and keep warm while they dry off. We’ve often found that dogs excitedly dive into the robe head first, because they look forward to feeling warm, comfortable, and still able to wag their tail in a towel.

100% Cotton

Often advertised as a ‘microfibre dog dry bag,’ these products promise to be an absorbent material that gets your pooch dry quickly. Nonetheless, all of our products at Harbour Hounds are designed on extensive research, and we’ve discovered that 100% cotton fabric will dry your dog far more quickly. One feel of our dog dry robes will reveal just how exceptional the quality is and why they can soak up water at a much faster rate. The premium fabric will keep your dog cosy and dry.

More Portable

Dog drying products have always been popular amongst pet owners that are on the move and enjoy a staycation. Whilst there is nothing better than seeing your dog frolic in the sea, there’s nothing worse than seeing your dog soak the interior of your car, caravan, or campervan.

Drying bags remain the less portable option for a holiday that is impulsive and full of interesting locations, as your dog cannot move while they’re enclosed in it. However, a dog towelling robe doesn’t derail your holiday plans and allows for café trips, park walks, and house visits while your pooch dries off next to you.

Metal Fastener

A staple mark of the dog drying bag is a Velcro fastener which secures its fit. But at Harbour Hounds we are fully aware of Velcro’s short shelf-life (particularly in the washing machine) so we decided not to include them on our robes.

Instead, we have created a design using metal fasteners and poppers which form a far more reliable strap on the robe. This means that it doesn’t fall off and increases the durability of your product tenfold. Metal fasteners also meet our pledge to reduce wastage and plastic in our environment.

At Harbour Hounds we’re extremely proud of our user friendly and stylish dog drying robes. We’ve put all the best elements into one robe design to bring you one that’s fit for your dog’s use, and makes your life easier. We know you’ll love them.
